Today is the first day of Black Futures Month, Jeanne.

Black Futures Month is about making space for Black people to vision and build the world of our dreams. So each February, we shine light on and celebrate Black people, art, culture, organizing, and our bold, Black JOY. All our ways of doing and being is how we create Black liberation.

Today we kick off celebrations with Black Futures: An Ode to Freedom Summer. This Afrofuturist film imagines a time when all Black people will be free: free to dream, free to flourish, and free to be.

Watch what happens when Black people in the future find a time capsule from Freedom Summer 2020 and discover the movement struggle that sparked a new generation to grow up and thrive without the threat of oppression and anti-Black racism.

We are sharing this beautiful film with you to prompt you to dream big, bold, Black futures with us. When we allow ourselves the freedom and permission to follow our radical imagination, the world we need and want takes root.

Celebrate Black Futures Month with us today. Watch Black Futures: An Ode to Freedom Summer and share it with a few friends. You can also ask them to text FUTURE to 90975 to learn, organize, and take action for Black liberation this month.

Most days we are robbed of the space to dream, tell new stories, and feed our Black radical imagination.

This month, we will take the time to uplift artists, creators, and organizers in our ecosystem and beyond. It’s time to tell the stories we have yet to hear—stories that will unlock our future, and visions of a future society that invests in people and community.
