Given the state of the world, don’t you think it’s time that regular people get ready to be Troublemakers?
Organized by some longtime 350 Seattle folks along with many others, Troublemakers is a new group focused on creative and strategic nonviolent direct action (NVDA); on connecting and supporting a community of people who want to resist the business-as-usual that’s devastating the planet and its peoples; and on training those who are interested but inexperienced in such resistance work.
Two weeks ago, Troublemakers saw its first–and wildly successful–member-led action: a group of elders removed all the survey flagging from a legacy forest near Olympia so that the Department of Natural Resources couldn’t sell this bio-diverse and climate-essential parcel for logging: this came after years of public pressure against these sales, lawsuits, and admission by previous WA Lands Commissioners that we should no longer be logging these forests.
Troublemakers is founded on the belief that we need more community to build effective actions. Until that first action, Troublemakers was invitation-only. But now, we’re opening it up to the 350 Seattle community and beyond– we’re having a launch party on Thursday, April 11 at 7pm at Sole Repair on Capitol Hill. There will be food, drink, dancing, and Troublemakers. We’ll have just a little official programming, and we’ll be available for conversation and questions. We hope you’ll join us!
