Hi all,

Thanks to many of you for signing onto an open letter to the current insurers of Trans Mountain, demanding that they drop the pipeline, rule out insuring all tar sands expansion projects, and adopt a policy on Indigenous rights. More than 140 groups representing a whopping 24 million people endorsed the letter, and it was sent to the CEOs of AIG, Chubb, Energy Insurance Limited, Liberty Mutual, Lloyd’s, Munich Re, Starr, Stewart Specialty Risk Underwriting, and W.R. Berkley this morning.
For more details, check out the press release and the letter itself. With the August 31 deadline for Trans Mountain’s insurance renewal looming, now is a crucial time to ramp up the pressure on these companies, which have not yet commented on whether or not they will continue insuring the destructive project in 2020-21 and beyond.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions, or if you’d like to get more involved in this campaign effort!
In solidarity,
Sulakshana
P.S. This is just one small part of the powerful resistance to Trans Mountain! Right now, Dr. Tim Takaro is on day three of camping out in the trees to prevent forest clearing along the pipeline route (amplify here), and the Tiny House Warriors continue to hold the line strong on unceded Secwepemc Territory – watch and share this video featuring Secwepemc elders.
