I have some amazing news to share.
Insurers are dropping the Trans Mountain tar sands pipeline, and the critical mass of exits could mean protecting this coast, the climate, and Indigenous rights. Fifteen companies that have ruled out coverage for the existing pipeline and it’s related expansion. This is a major movement victory. After years of pressure from grassroots activists, insurers are finally developing tar sands policies.
We need to harness this momentum and convince the remaining major insurance companies to publicly announce they will not insure Trans Mountain. The pipeline just isn’t worth the risk. Will you take 2 minutes right now to email the executives of companies that still need to rule out the pipeline?
The Trans Mountain pipeline would fuel the climate emergency, as smoke has filled the skies and many have lost their homes and evacuated to fire this year, the clock is ticking to keep fossil fuels in the ground.
What’s next? Together, we will tackle the major companies that are part of the Lloyd’s of London insurance marketplace, which collectively has been a major insurer of Trans Mountain.
Many of these same companies have ruled out insuring the destructive Adani Carmichael coal mine in Australia following demands from people like you, so we know they can move.
This is where you come in. We can make sure these companies rule out the project for good.
Not only are we asking them to drop Trans Mountain, but we are also demanding they develop a policy ruling out all tar sands transport. Let’s stop these toxic tar sands expansions.
Trans Mountain’s current insurance contract runs out at the end of this month, so we just have a bit over a week to demand they drop before the deadline. Send your message right away.
Let’s keep up the pressure!
Thank you,
