Hello all,

I hope you’re recovering from the climate strikes and basking in the glow of their success!

As you know, in order for the climate strikes to not be a flash in the pan, but rather build momentum in a concrete way, we need to help strike participants (and your broader base) plug into longer term organizing and campaigns for climate justice. The climate strike actions were big and beautiful, so let’s make sure we don’t let that energy and momentum go to waste.

First of all, please celebrate with us and debrief your climate strike action(s) with other action organizers from around the country! (Did you know that 370 of the 1190 climate strike events in the US were hosted by 350 local groups/ volunteers? Amazing!) Join the Climate Strikes Wrap up call on Tuesday, October 1, 5:00 pm PT / 8:00 pm ET.

Also next week, we will be hosting “We Are Unstoppable: Building a Movement to Shut Down Fossil Fuels,” on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 5:00 pm PT / 8:00 pm ET. This webinar will be about plugging folks into ongoing climate movement work, including 350’s campaigns and your local groups. Please spread the word about this call. Given the excitement we’re hoping it will be big and we already have 1500 RSVPs.

Finally, on Oct. 4 we will send an email to everyone on our US list asking them to join a local 350 group (or start a new group if there isn’t one locally). This is one of our national organizing team’s main strategies to channel new people directly to your group. We will share a list of people who sign up in your area by Oct. 15. We can’t emphasize enough how important it is to have a plan to reach out to these new folks asap and help them find a “home” in your group. Here is a toolkit with some tips, resources and samples to help with engaging new volunteers.

With huge appreciation for all of your organizing work,

Michelle
