There’s No Time to Lose. International online get together – Sunday, September 26, 2021: 6.30-8.30pm (UK time: BST/GMT+1); 10:30 am – 12:30 pm Pacific time; 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm Eastern time. “We have to act quickly. What we do I believe in the next three to four years will determine the future of humanity” Sir David King, former chief scientific advisor to the British government. Since many countries have started to come out of covid lockdown there has been an upsurgence of groups around the world moving towards high level civil disobedience – the classical nonviolence promoted by Martin Luther King and Gandhi. This is not surprising, it’s now self-evident governments have left it too late to stop us going over 1.5C and there is clearly no carbon budget left. Our only course of action is to do whatever is nonviolently necessary to force governments to act. We have no time to lose. This opportunity will not come again. The big challenge is to bring these mobilizations to scale. Without the numbers we will fail. This event promotes campaigns which are proactively engaging in recruitment during and immediately after various action episodes. A close combination of action and mobilization, happening in close succession, provides the best chance of getting us to the mass participation in civil disobedience we need. There will be a number of short talks and testimonies, and then plenty of time to share and learn in breakout workshops. More details will be sent to you soon!
