Thank you for joining the Deadline Glasgow: Defund Climate Chaos Campaign Kickoff.

More than 800 of you joined us for a powerful hour of action, inspirational speakers and campaign planning. If you missed it you can watch the whole event here.

Over the next 88 days, we’re going to be building the largest, most powerful people-powered campaign we can ahead of the Glasgow Climate Talks, the most important climate negotiations since the Paris Agreement was signed in 2015.

Our first big call to action is the #DefundLine – Expose Greenwashing Day of Action on Friday, August 13th. There are already actions confirmed in 11 cities across the country, including in Seattle, San Francisco and Washington DC. Can you organize an action in your community?

There are 3 things you can do now to join this action:

1. Register your action on Action Network and a Stop the Money Pipeline organizer will be in touch with resources and support to help you with your action planning.
2. Join our #DefundLine3 Organizers Call on Monday, Aug 9th at 5PST / 8EST. Note, this call is intended only for people planning actions on August 13th!
3. Order some beautiful #DefundLine3 posters. To get them in time for an action on August 13th, you need to order them by no later than midnight, Thursday, August 5th. You can use the posters to wheatpaste across town, turn into placards or put in your window.

During the Campaign Kickoff last night, we also raised nearly $18,000 for three powerful frontline organizations: RISE St. James, the Tsleil-Waututh Nation Sacred Trust and the Giniw Collective.

These three groups are doing incredible work. RISE St. James is leading the fight to stop new petrochemical plants in the predominantly Black community of St. James, Louisiana; the Tsleil-Waututh Nation Sacred Trust is doing vital work to stop the Trans Mountain pipeline; Giniw Collective is the leading Indigenous-led organization taking direct action to stop Line 3.

We’re hoping to keep our fundraising going and hit our goal of raising $30,000 for these three powerful groups. Can you make a donation to help us reach our goal? Every cent we raise will be equally split between these three powerful organizations.

After hearing from incredible Black and Indigenous women last night about their work to challenge major polluters threatening their homelands, we also wanted to share this report: Gendered and Racial Impacts of the Fossil Fuel Industry in North America and Complicit Financial Institutions.

Sharon Lavigne and Tara Houska were just two of the amazing women interviewed for this report, which was compiled by Stop the Money Pipeline coalition partner, the Women’s Earth and Climate Action Network (WECAN), and highlights the intersections of gender, race, fossil fuels, and the complicit financial institutions.
