Wow — what an incredible week. Thank you to everyone who joined the People vs. Fossil Fuels week of action in Washington D.C. and made it such a success! Our message to President Biden was clear all week: He must reject fossil fuel projects and declare a climate emergency now.
Throughout the week, we were led by Indigenous and community leaders from the front lines of fossil fuel pollution and climate chaos. In total, 655 people were arrested in acts of civil disobedience, demanding that President Biden uphold his commitments to climate action and environmental justice.
We marched under banners and artwork that showed exactly what’s at stake and what we’re fighting for our: our communities, our water, our health, and our future.
People vs. Fossil Fuels was the largest climate mobilization and civil disobedience action in years, but the struggle continues. Our actions forced the Biden administration to respond to our demands, and highlighted resistance to fossil fuel projects just weeks before the next UN climate summit in Glasgow.
As we appreciate and reflect on a powerful week of actions, let’s keep the pressure up on President Biden and his administration. He needs to hear from thousands of us, in every was possible, that climate action can’t wait.
