Hundreds of activists, community organizers, and folks looking to make a difference joined me the other week on our FIRST ever Teach-In, and Jeanne — I had a BLAST!
The energy in the Zoom was going off! The chat was exploding! Folks were engaged, fired up, and ready to go.
While I loved hanging out with all of you, let’s get into what we accomplished during our 1st ever Teach-In:
102 people have signed up to host a BREATHE on Your Block house party!
164 have signed up for the BREATHE on Social digital sharing team!
142 people have sent messages to 352 local elected officials around the country to push for local BREATHE Act resolutions!
This is activism, Jeanne. This is a community coming together to push for something greater than ourselves. If you didn’t get a chance to make it to the teach-in, no worries. We’ve got you covered:
We need 100,000 community co-sponsors by September 30th if we’re going to take this to the halls of Congress. We’re at nearly 70,000 right now. Make sure to tell all of your friends and family! It’s going to be folks like you that ensure the BREATHE Act gets introduced by a member of Congress.
Onward!

M4BL is a national network of over 150 organizations creating a broad political home for Black people to learn, organize, and take action.
In July, we unveiled the BREATHE Act, a visionary federal Civil Rights bill that would divest from policing and invest in a new vision of public safety. For decades, the federal government has funded mass criminalization while underfunding social services that actually keep people safe. Black people and our allies are demanding a new approach. The BREATHE Act is an affirmative vision for our lives.TWEET YOUR SUPPORT TODAY »
