Jeanne,

There is a lot to update you all on the Puget Sound Energy fracked gas project.

As you may have heard, the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency has announced that they plan to issue the air pollution permit for the PSE fracked gas project here in Tacoma. Obviously this is not what we had hoped for and we have a handy form letter you can use to let them know they should change their mind.

Can you help us amplify this message by sharing on your social media?

Sample Twitter post: The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency has announced they will grant a critical permit to the Liquefied Natural Gas (fracked) project in Tacoma. This is unacceptable. Help us change their mind: https://actionnetwork.org/letters/deny-the-lng-permit/ #NoLNG253 #StandWithPuyallup

Sample Facebook post: We know that we have few precious years left to avoid the worst of climate chaos. We know that we must transition rapidly away from fossil fuels to renewable energy. We know that so-called natural (fracked) gas is just another fossil fuel and a climate killer – 86 times worse than carbon dioxide over a 20 year period. We know that we cannot allow any more fossil fuel infrastructure to be built. Somehow the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency does not know this and has announced that they plan to approve the air pollution permit for the Puget Sound Energy Liquefied Natural Gas facility in Tacoma. Help convince them of what we all know already: this fracked gas facility is a climate killer and the permit should be denied.

There is also a public hearing coming up about this next week, and we want to turn out in force:

What: Public Hearing on Puget Sound Energy fracked gas (LNG) project

Where: Rialto Theater, 310 S 9th St, Tacoma, WA 98402

When: August 27th, 2pm-5pm, 6:30pm-10pm

Before: Rally to the Rialto, led by the Puyallup Tribe, 10am at Don Pugnetti park in downtown Tacoma and ending at the Rialto at 1pm.

Also: Free screening of “Ancestral Waters”, about the Puyallup Tribe’s resistance to the LNG project, at the Urban Grace Church just next door during the break at 5pm.

While this permit process has not gone as we wished, the fact that additional review was required and has taken over one and a half years to this point is a victory in itself – the conversion of the TOTE ships to burn LNG has even been delayed.

And it’s not over yet. The Attorney General’s Office and the Department of Ecology made it clear that they saw serious flaws in PSCAA’s review and Advocates for a Cleaner Tacoma, joined by Sierra Club, are taking this project to court.

As Tolstoy said “The strongest of all warriors are these two — Time and Patience.”

We have both.
