On April 22, 2020– the 50th anniversary of Earth Day–young people and adults across the United States will once again take to the streets to demand climate action. Earth Day will launch three consecutive days of massive strikes, fulfilling our promise to take the climate strike movement beyond what we achieved on September 20.
Then, on April 23rd we’re organizing the biggest day of action targeting the financiers of climate chaos that the world has ever seen. We’re going to storm every Chase Bank branch, shut down Wall Street, and flip over the ‘closed’ sign on banks, insurance companies and investors offices from coast to coast.
During the training on March 8 coaches will walk you through the steps of planning an action and how to build a diverse, multi-ethnic, multi-generational team while you’re at it. They’ll also walk you through the multitude of resources available, like recruitment and social media tools, to campaign resources like art, graphics, flyers, and messaging.
The Stop the Money Pipeline national day of action on April 23 will be a day focused on community action. College students at dozens of campuses across the country will be calling on their colleges to stop profiting off of the destruction of our land and climate and to divest from fossil fuels. Adults will be targeting their place of work as well as demanding that our everyday institutions — like Wells Fargo, Chase Bank, Liberty Mutual, and other banks and businesses — take money out of fossil fuels and deforestation. This is the day that we must reach out to everyone we know and ask them to step up with us.
Imagine how powerful it will be when we win: imagine JPMorgan Chase announcing that it’s ending funding for the worst fossil fuel companies. Bulldozers shut down when Blackrock halts investments into the destruction of the Amazon. Pipelines and polluters would declare bankruptcy within days, the power of our actions would echo around the world, and there would be nothing the Trumps or Putins or Bolsonaros of the world could do to stop it.
