Subject: TUESDAY: Learn why divesting from fossil fuels will help our pension programs!

Join me in this virtual event to discuss the future of fossil fuel divestment

Hey there!

I’m so excited to invite you to a virtual event I will speak at next week: A Win on California Pension Divestment Is a Win for California Communities, hosted by our friends at Fossil Free California.

I will be joined by five other inspirational environmental justice leaders to discuss the plan to achieve a key victory by passing Senate Bill 252.

If passed, SB 252 would prohibit California’s biggest pension programs — CalPERS and CalSTRS — from continuing their multi-billion dollar investments in fossil fuel companies. Studies have shown evidence of improvement in fund returns when pension funds divest from fossil fuel companies.

What: “A Win on Pension Divestment is a Win for California”

When: Tuesday, January 23 from 6-7:30 p.m.

Where: Virtual event (RSVP here)

I will be joined by the president and CEO of the Hip Hop Caucus Rev. Lennox Yearwood Jr.; 350.org co-founder Bill McKibben; Carlos Davidson from California Faculty Association; Luis Angel Martinez from Fossil Free California; and Ra’mauri Cash from Youth vs. Apocalypse.

My incredible co-speakers are leading the path forward to a future where worker dollars will no longer be invested in risky investments like fossil fuel companies which are not only polluting our communities but are also, in fact, hurting returns on pension funds.

Glen, I hope you can join our online event to hear the stories of these advocates who have lived on the frontlines in communities facing health impacts from refineries and oil drilling, and now use their voices to demand fossil fuel divestment >>

These climate justice leaders will show us that when workers, youth, faith members, and community members stand together to demand fossil fuel divestment, they begin to pave the way for a future where oil wells and refineries no longer exist in our neighborhoods.

I hope to see you next Tuesday!
