When we founded The Electoral Justice Project of the Movement for Black Lives (EJP), we committed to each other that we’d engage in elections on our terms and no one else’s. We committed to politics truly about us; our culture, our solutions, our strategies to win. Which is why in 2018 we launched #WakandaTheVote, a groundbreaking initiative to register voters at “Black Panther” screenings nationwide centered in Black joy. The hashtag had over 100 million web impressions and we registered thousands of voters. While our people gathered to celebrate Black culture and brilliance, M4BL partnered with local organizations, collectives and comrades across the country to build Black political power.
Now, in one of the most critical Election years in recent history, we’re calling on the Dora Milaje and ALL the Tribes of Wakanda to defend Black lives and protect Black votes. We urge all who are able to cast your ballots today until November 3rd.
This year’s Black National Convention on August 28th told the story of who we are, what we’re fighting for, and all the progress that Black organizing can make. As the credits rolled on the BNC, we sadly learned of the passing of Chadwick Boseman, our Forever King. We honor the legacy of Chadwick and all of our loved ones, lost too soon, by fighting for a country worthy of our lives.
