It is no big secret that Trump is saying he’ll rush the results of the election tonight to declare a premature victory.

So before the night gets away, I hope you’ll give me a moment to explain why we are demanding that every vote is counted, no matter how long it takes.

But before I dive in, if you are prepared to fight with everything you have to protect our democracy, please add your name to join our massive campaign to protect the results of the election:

Add your name: Demand every vote is counted before a winner is declared in the presidential election.

The truth is that there is a very good chance that we won’t know who won the presidential election tonight, Jeanne.

Because not only does every state have its own rules for how and when votes are counted and reported, but more people than ever voted by mail in this election due to the coronavirus pandemic. And these ballots will take longer to count than the ballots cast at early voting locations or polling places.

Right now, Trump is using his campaign platform to put enormous pressure on election officials to call the results early and disregard mail-in ballots. Because the more votes that are counted, the greater his chance of losing becomes.

But here’s the good news: While Trump was plotting to undermine our democracy, our team has been planning and organizing:

First, we’ll launch immediate and widespread mobilizations with our partners at the Protect the Results coalition if Trump tries to cheat his way through this election.

Then, we’ll launch coordinated efforts to stop possible interference with the tabulation of votes including impounding ballots in the mail, or the use of federal authorities to stop the counting of ballots.

Next, we’ll continue sustained mobilizations to ensure the next administration that is sworn in is the one elected by the people.

If you’re ready to take action right now, the first step is adding your name to join our massive pressure campaign to count every vote:

Can you add your name today to demand every vote is counted before a winner is declared in the presidential election?

The future of our democracy and our climate are hanging in the balance of this election. With less than ten years left to tackle the worst impacts of the climate crisis, we need an administration that will keep fossil fuels in the ground, hold polluters accountable, and transition our energy sources.

Trump has made it clear that he will continue lining the pockets of fossil fuel executives and rolling back critical climate protections.

So during this unprecedented moment in American history, when millions of ballots have yet to be counted, we must do everything we can to protect and uphold our democracy from those who seek to undermine our elections. The climate cannot wait:

Take the first step and add your name today to demand every vote is counted. Together, we are going to protect the results of the presidential election and stop Trump from undermining our democracy.

Thank you for adding your name and joining the fight to protect our democracy. More on our plan and next steps tomorrow.

In solidarity,

Brooke Harper
