Hi Jeanne,
The latest UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) report just came out.
This report is all about solutions to the climate crisis, and the findings are straightforward: the only way we get out of this mess is with a fast, global transition away from fossil fuels to renewable energy.1
The solution sounds simple, but governments are dragging their feet. They’re letting hardworking people struggle with rising fuel bills and climate impacts while polluters like ExxonMobil and Chevron make record profits.2
So today, I’m asking you to join me, and many more, in calling for polluters to finally be held accountable for their lies and deception. And that means hitting them where it hurts – their profits.
We deserve justice, Jeanne. Ordinary people who have done little to cause this mess should not suffer the worst effects of the crisis. And they definitely shouldn’t have to foot the bill. The fossil fuel industry is responsible, plain and simple. They must pay their fair share to fix it.
As of now, scientists say meeting the ambitious target to keep global warming to 1.5 degrees set in Paris in 2015 is possible. But, it will require a huge shift in effort, and that must include more financial investment from governments.
There is growing momentum behind our movement to call on those most responsible to pay their fair share and hold Big Oil accountable for their disastrous projects.
Now is the perfect moment for our movement to call on our governments to make the companies responsible for the climate crisis pay.
Will you be one of the many taking action today, Jeanne?
Onwards,
Ellie for 350.org
