Jeanne,

Thank you so much to everyone who joined our webinar on Thursday to discuss the next steps in the Fossil Free Fed campaign.

In case you missed it or want to listen back, please watch and share the recording here.

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our panelists:

  • Francisco Perez, Executive Director, The Center for Popular Economics
  • Brooke Harper, Regional Campaigns Strategist, 350.org
  • Sandy Gokee, Cultural Coordinator, Lake Superior Chippewa
  • Vasudha Desikan, Political Director at ACRE
  • Deanna Noel, Climate Campaign Director, Public Citizen
  • David Goodrich, 350 Montgomery County and retired NOAA scientist

During the conversation, we discussed how the Federal Reserve System has the power to end fossil fuel financing in the U.S. – all it needs is the right leadership.Panelist Francisco Perez helped demystify the Fed, while Sandy Gokee provided a sobering perspective on how fossil fuel financing is harming and damaging Indigenous communities and those most impacted by the climate crisis every day.

We learned about the promising slate of nominees for leadership positions at the Board, including known climate champions Sarah Bloom Raskin and Lisa Cook. Vasudha Desikan and Deanna Noel shared more information about the Fossil Free Finance Act.

As Brooke Harper of 350.org pointed out, the best thing we can do to promote a Fossil Free Fed is to add our voices to the call for climate action from the U.S.’ central bank. We can do that by contacting our senators and demanding that they confirm the nominees so we can have a working Fed again.

We have to bring our voices together to call for climate action from the Fed. As we learned from Dave Goodrich, 350 MoCo will be holding a major action in front of the Fed Board headquarters in Washington, D.C. on Friday, April 22 (Earth Day) as part of a national day of action!

Holding actions at as many Fed locations as possible will show the Fed leadership that we are a united force. Sign up to host your own action or to get updates on existing Earth Day actions here!

Thank you for taking the time and stay tuned for future webinars.
