So where are we?

With today’s big cut-off, most of our advocacy work to get bills passed out of their committee of origin was done last week. On Wednesday our attention will shift to the Rules Committee to advocate that bills be “pulled” to their chamber floor for a vote. Yes, you heard right, more votes are looming!

This means we can take a moment (and a breather!) with one simple, but important action:

Cap and Invest: The Civic Action Team opposes SB 5126 Cap and Invest. This carbon pricing bill will only cause continued harm to frontline communities; it’s cumbersome and slow to obtain the revenue it seeks; it’s incredibly complex to administer; even after having been revised it relies too heavily on offsets; and to top it all off, policies like this have not been successful to date in actually reducing carbon emissions. We say NO, and oppose.
