Last week we emailed you about a proposed oil drilling project in Alaska: ConocoPhillips’ Willow project.
If built, this project would allow the construction of up to 250 drilling wells, not to mention pipelines, roads, and a processing facility, in an area just 36 miles from the mostly-Indigenous village of Nuiqsut in Alaska.
The Department of Interior’s Bureau of Land Management (BLM) announced a 30-day public comment period on the project that closes on March 9. So we need to make our voices heard:
We’ll submit all of your comments to the official BLM comment website before the deadline. Together, we can make our voices heard to support communities on the frontlines of this fight and demand that the Biden Administration end this project once and for all.
We’ve seen more clearly in the last few weeks that the corruption and dominance of oil and gas isn’t just killing the planet. The shocking invasion of Ukraine demonstrates how our dependence on oil and gas is enabling dictators like Putin who use fossil fuel money to launch devastating wars.
Our reliance on fossil fuels prevented governments and financial institutions from de-escalating the situation ahead of war and has helped fund the violence. The sooner that we transition the global economy to renewable energy, the better off we will be.
This project is going to be a major test for the Biden Administration, and has the potential to severely impact Biden’s credibility as a ‘climate president.’
Let’s make sure he makes the right choice by submitting as many public comments as possible.
Thank you for speaking out.
