Hi all –

Just wanted to share this online Chase action that we took in response to the Goldman announcement — we’ve recorded about 50 calls to Dimon so far this morning 🙂

If anyone wants to use this text as a template to send e-blasts to their own lists in the next few days or week, please feel free to do so!

Alec —

Earlier this week, Goldman Sachs did something no other major US bank has done: it committed to stopping all funding for coal mining. Goldman’s new climate policy also renounces direct funding of Arctic drilling projects and new coal power plants.

While this policy is nowhere near as strong as it should be — funding any fossil fuel projects in 2019 is monstrous — it’s a big step forward. Of the six largest banks on Wall Street, Goldman Sachs is now far ahead of its competitors on coal financing, and it’s the first to establish no-go zones in oil and gas. They knocked down one domino; it’s our job to make sure the rest follow — other major Wall Street banks must follow Goldman’s lead and pass the strongest possible climate policies. That includes the world’s largest funder of fossil fuels, JPMorgan Chase.

Can you call JPMorgan Chase and ask if they plan to follow Goldman Sachs and prohibit the financing of fossil fuels? Here’s a call script and phone number here.

This is a critical time to ratchet up the pressure on Chase. In the leadup to the Paris Agreement, major US banks released new climate policies one after another; when one moved, the others followed. And in response to the new Goldman policy, a spokesman for JPMorgan Chase wrote: “A significant amount of work is underway to further build upon our efforts on climate-related risk and opportunity and we look forward to sharing more in the coming year.”

Now is the time to put pressure on Chase. Can you take a minute this morning to call JPMorgan Chase and ask if they’ll be following Goldman Sachs’ lead and prohibiting the financing of fossil fuels?

The campaign on Chase has been growing for months now. In December, there have been Chase actions in Washington DC, New York City, Chicago, Boston, Rhode Island, and more. If all of us make our voices heard, we can do this. Thanks for taking a minute to call JPMorgan Chase this morning!

Alec, for the Chase team
