Good morning on Inauguration Day! As we begin this day with optimism and new-found energy, we sincerely hope that all federal and state elected leaders stay safe and out of harm’s way today.
By now we’ve taken several different types of grassroot advocacy actions: we’ve used the state legislature website to sign in to support or oppose bills, we’ve provided written testimony and we’ve sent emails to committee members. With this email, we’re adding one more type of action to our list: constituents making calls to their Senators.
Today we’ll focus on several big bills:
Representative Alex Ramel’s Healthy Homes, Clean Buildings is one of the most impactful climate bills of this session, addressing the fastest growing sector of emissions in the state. It’s scheduled for a hearing on Friday, and we want to give it the strongest start possible with hundreds of sign ons in support — please share the sign-in link with your friends!
We’re also looking down the road for Clean Fuels. This week the bill is getting its first House committee vote, but the House has passed Clean Fuels two years in a row, so we’re looking ahead to the Senate. That’s where it will have an uphill fight, so let’s start working on certain members now.
Finally, we’ll push the Chair and Vice Chairs of the Finance committee to ensure that the Working families tax exemption gets a public hearing.
