Northwest salmon and orca are running out of time.

There are only 4 days left to tell Washington Senator Patty Murray and Governor Jay Inslee that it is urgent and imperative they develop a comprehensive plan that includes breaching the lower Snake River dams.

The science is clear– breaching those 4 dams on the Lower Snake River is our best chance to stop salmon extinction and to provide the food the Southern Resident orca rely on.

Our Solutionary Rail research has shown that the services these dams provide – mainly transporting wheat to PNW ports – are replaceable; greener solutions exist for transportation and energy production.

The lower Snake River dams have driven Northwest salmon toward extinction for decades, violating treaty rights for Northwest Indigenous people and tribes, and costing taxpayers billions to maintain. Meanwhile, these dams are aging and inefficient, producing less and less energy each year.

With a comprehensive plan from our policy leaders – whom we elect to solve problems – we can restore salmon populations back to abundance, while meeting regional energy and agricultural needs. Recently, our opponents spent millions on a disinformation campaign, equating dams with climate friendly solutions.  We need to amp up our response by letting Senator Murray and others know that Salmon Need Free-Flowing Rivers and breaching those dams is the only way to stop the impending extinction of Columbia-Snake River salmon and Southern Resident orca.
