3698: Total legislator contacts made by the Civic Action Team in 2022!
43: Days left in the legislative session!
Hello CAT team!
We know our last two emails were full of lengthy actions so thank you for your time and energy! Today we’re keeping it light so you can catch your breath.
You may have started to pick up that there is a certain flow of the legislative session with public hearings and executive sessions. There are also plenty of deadlines designed to whittle down the number of bills. Our first cut off is coming up on Thursday next week. At that point bills will need to be voted out of their policy committee in order to move forward. (Bills with a fiscal impact get an extra four days.) In our experience, if a committee Chair brings a bill for a vote (i.e. executive session), it usually means they have the votes to pass.
PS: Did you know one of the reasons for a short session is so that our part-time legislators can get back to fundraising and the house can run for re-election in November? Wow!
