Exciting news! There are many things you can do to build the growing movement to stop the climate breakdown. Get behind FridaysforFuture in your community!
You can help as an individual and in a local group.
What can I do as a single person?
–Join the Climate strike with Greta Thunberg in Los Angeles. Or urge friends to attend. It is a strike to declare climate emergency to end California’s use of fossile fuels. The rally is Friday, November 1, 12 PM to 3 PM. The location is WEST STEPS LOS ANGELES CITY HALL• 200 N SPRING ST, LOS ANGELES, CA 90012. Bring your friends!
–Volunteer as marshalls or other work such as petition signature gathering at the LA Nov. 1 event. Contact Peter.
–Sign the petition online to declare a climate emergency. Here is the online link. Remember these petitions will eventually be delivered to your local representatives to get going. Note the contacts generated off the petitions will go to the local FFF groups sprouting up all over Calfiornia and the Southwest! We need to build local FFF groups and support them to engage their communities!
–Print out the petition at this link. Go out and gather signatures from friends or at a public spot or at your school. Or take the petition along for example to the strike on Nov. 1 and gather lots of signatures, marking Yes in the second column to note a student. Later simply go the online petition link and enter the information of the paper petition on the right-hand side. Be sure to hold on the original. Send the originals to your nearest local FFF group. Be careful to enter carefullly the information, above all for the email and for the phone number.
What can I do to help or to build a local FFF group?
A huge network of local FFF groups are sprouting all over the US and elsewhere. In the current phase you can help build a local FFF group such as FFF Pasadena or FFF La Habra or FFF Lakewood to link up with others. FFF USA is working with actionnetwork to assist local FFF groups in climate change activities. Linked up to actionnetwork, the local group will receive contact information of others who have signed the petition, offer information of events, encourage fellow students, neighbors and local residents to engage with the group, and offer resources such as online talks on climate change. This affiliation will cost nothing.
–If you have set up or are setting up a FFF group, make sure you sign up with a real live event at https://www.fridaysforfuture.org/. You can also get suggestions here of what to do. For example FFF globally is urging many to organize local November 29 climate strikes.
–If you are forming a group at your college or in your community, often with others, take these steps to get started . Make sure you have signed the online petition. This will bring your information into the FFF network. Also make sure someone in the group is moderately familiar with databases. As a next step, email us directly at our contact site with the name of your FFF group and the names of the volunteers who are in the group. You will become activists or administrators in the FFF group and then can use actionnetwork and FFF resources to build your FFF group to reach into your community. Remember your group is like a TEAM, together everyone accomplishes more! And you in the local FFF decide what you want to do. Behind the scenes, we are here to help your group grow and empower the folks in your community.
Thank you for everything you can do. We want real change not climate change and you are the force of that real change.
