We are asking you to take 1 minute and sign our petition encouraging Costco—the popular retailer in the US where 1 in 3 Americans shop and whose motto is “do the right thing”—to push Citibank, the provider of Costco’s co-branded credit card, to stop funding the expansion of polluting fossil fuel projects that are wrecking the planet.
Since launching in September, the Costco: Clean Up Your Credit Card campaign is on a roll: more than 20,000 folks have asked Costco to take action, including about 5,000 Third Actors. But we need at least 10,000 more signers if we are going to succeed in persuading Costco to make a positive step towards a cleaner future by pressuring dirty Citibank to clean up its act.
As a Third Act supporter, you know we’ve been pushing hard on the big banks—like Citi—to stop funding climate destruction. Citi is the second-largest funder of fossil fuels in the world, the largest American funder of coal, and one of the largest funders of projects that violate human rights and Indigenous sovereignty in the Amazon rainforest. To move Citi off of fossil fuels, we need some of Citi’s biggest clients to demand change. As the third largest retailer in the US, Costco, along with its vast membership base, is a massive client of Citi.
We know that Costco prides itself in listening to us—its shoppers and concerned members of the public—and we know that Citi listens to its big clients. That’s why we need your help right now: Call on Costco to shop for a better credit card.
P.P. S. Note that the petition is co-sponsored by many Third Act partners so we can collect as many signatures as possible. When you sign the petition, you may receive email updates from 1-2 of our partners (no more than 2). There’s an easy solution: If you do not want to be added to other mailing lists, click on the “opt out” boxes below the sign-up button.
