Dear Jeanne,
If we want to preserve a thriving world, nothing is more important than PNW forests, which sequester more carbon than any other forests in the world.

That’s why 350 Seattle is happy to join 350.org, 350 Eugene, 350 PDX, and many other groups in supporting the regional Deep Roots Camp, taking place from June 1 – June 4.

Deep Roots seeks to draw from the lessons and strengths of both the climate justice and forest defense movements, with the goal of building a vibrant direct action movement to protect our communities, forests, and planet. In working to build stronger movements, workshop topics will include decolonization, economic justice, and how conservation efforts have left out some communities, and been complicit in harm.

Other trainings will focus on direct action strategy and tactics (including technical blockades and climbing), movement art-making (coordinated by the Indigenous People’s Power Project), forest knowledge, activist resilience, and more. The camp location is TBD, but because it’s meant to draw people from the Canadian border to the California border, it’s likely to be between Seattle and Portland, and in the woods. It will be followed by 2-4 regional actions strategically targeted to preserve mature forests and build grassroots power.

The camp is free, and delicious food will be provided. No experience required! If you’d like to be on a Signal thread with other 350 Seattle folks, to coordinate camp travel, etc., email Alice.

We hope to see you in the woods!

In solidarity,
Alice, Dakota, Ellen, Emily, Margo, and Scott
