Dear allies of the Red, Black & Green New Deal,
Thank you for a powerful beginning to this network. With more than 160 allies on the line, we took the first step together in following Black leadership and supporting the advancement of a National Black Climate Agenda that will include a Red, Black & Green New Deal. Click here to review call notes and click here for a call recording.
On the call we were oriented to the Red, Black & Green New Deal initiative: A national climate initiative that advances the Vision for Black Lives housed at the Movement for Black Lives and anchored by the Gulf Coast Center for Law & Policy. We reviewed long-term engagement options for non-Black allies to support this movement including the following actions:
-
Sign on to The Vision for Black Lives This is our shared accountability and the base-level commitment to participate in this network. We’re asking you to read, sit with, and sign onto this document. There is an option to sign on as both an individual and organization on this page.
-
Attend Monthly Allies Briefings: Commit to attending monthly exchange on how to advance the various elements of the Red Black and Green Initiative from March 2021 to March 2022. Calls will occur on the 4th Thursday of each month at 11amCDT, with the next call on 4/22. Register here for call-in information. (NOTE: the incorrect date was announced on the last call. The correct date is 4/22).
-
Amplify the RBGND Launch: The Red, Black & Green New Deal will publicly launch on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 with a soft launch on Thursday, April 22 (Earth Day). A social media toolkit is forthcoming. Please prepare yourself and your organization to amplify and stand in solidarity with this launch.
-
Join RBGND Allies Google Group: Look out for an invitation to the RBGND Allies Network Google Group. Invitations will roll out in batches as there are too many allies to invite in one day (a great problem to have); this will be live for information sharing by the April 22 call.
-
Leverage your access/power/privilege to advance the RBGND: Commit to use your existing networks, membership lists, access, capacity and resources to amplify demands that are part of the National Black Climate Agenda. Specific needs have been identified by RBGND leaders including polling, research, and legislative support. Please indicate your offerings on this form.
Questions from non-Black allies please reach out to emma@gcclp.org; questions from Black-identified leaders, please reach out to Valencia@m4bl.org or use this Black Leader form to join the RBGND Working Group.
Thanks y’all for showing up. This is about what we can do together, and I believe that we will win. Join us for our next call on April 22.
In solidarity,
Emma & the RBGND Team
