Hi all –

First off, wanted to make sure folks had seen that right now police are illegally barricading the Namewag camp in Minnesota. Posts from Giniw & Tara to amplify here and here and here.

And also wanted to share that, as Enbridge-paid police continue to harass water protectors on the frontlines, banks have three major loans to Enbridge, worth nearly $5 billion, that are up for renewal next month, on July 22nd and 23rd.

Starting today, STMP is generating emails to top executives at Wells Fargo, Citibank, Bank of America, Chase, and others, demanding that they walk away from these loans. If your org would like to join us in flooding the inboxes of execs, there’s a template email, list of targets, an email tool & more info about the July 22 and 23 loans here. You can see below for the email we just sent to the STMP list.

And here is a quick RT op of the action: https://twitter.com/StopMoneyPipe/status/1409646035664703489

Sending solidarity to any & all on the frontlines of this fight ✊

When a bank funds Line 3 what is it actually funding? Among other things, funding Line 3 means funding the violation of treaty rights; it means funding riot gear and weapons that are used to brutalize nonviolent Water Protectors; it means funding a tar sands pipeline that will have a climate impact four times greater than the entire country of Scotland.

But on July 22nd, Enbridge has three major bank loans, worth nearly $5 billion, that are due for renewal. Megabanks like Wells Fargo and Citibank have a big decision ahead of them: walk away from Enbridge or renew their loans and keep funding Line 3.

Can you send an email to the CEOs and executives at ten of Line 3’s largest funders to demand that they walk away from Line 3 when those loans expire?

The movement to stop Line 3 is powerful ― and growing even more so. Three weeks ago, 2,000 people traveled to northern Minnesota for Treaty People Gathering; more than 200 were arrested for shutting down an Enbridge workstation for more than two days; another action turned into a week-long occupation at the Mississippi headwaters.

Unfortunately, police intimidation is only increasing. This morning, Hubbard County Sherriffs barricaded access to Indigenous-led private property. Last week, law enforcement and Enbridge workers illegally entered the treaty-protected Welcome Water Protectors Center camp and arrested three people. A few days before that, 30 people were arrested for holding signs at the side of the road.

As this unfolds in real-time, people across the country are taking action to hold the funders of Line 3 accountable.

Can you take two minutes to send the top decision-makers at Wells Fargo, Citibank and Chase a message, demanding that they walk away from Line 3? Your email will go directly to the inboxes of CEOs.

It’s more important than ever to take action right now. Last week, President Biden signaled that he does not plan to cancel federal permits for Line 3 — despite mounting opposition.

Organizers on the frontlines of this fight have made it clear what the single most important thing you can do to help stop Line 3 this summer is: Go to Minnesota and stand with them on the frontlines.

We hope that a great many of you will heed their call ― and before you start making your plans to travel to Minnesota, please take two minutes to send the funders of Line 3 a message.

In solidarity,
Stop the Money Pipeline
