Dear STMP partners –

We wanted to send out a message about the Tesla Takedown campaign.

As you may have seen, the Tesla Takedown has been gaining huge momentum in recent weeks: There were more than 100 actions last weekend; there are 100+ actions planned this weekend. (You can find an action on this action map.) Thousands of people have sold Tesla stock and sales are plummeting. In the past month, Tesla’s share price is down by 30%, wiping tens of billions off of Elon Musk’s net worth.

In response, Elon Musk has been having a meltdown. This week, he and his minions targeted several climate groups, including 3 STMP coalition partners, in a variety of tweets and posts. (See here and here and here.) He even got his BFF, Trump, to publicly purchase an EV at the White House.

He also directly targeted an activist, Valerie Costa, who is an organizer with Troublemakers, a close partner of STMPs. You can see Valerie’s courageous response in this Guardian oped and on Democracy Now.

This all shows one thing: The Tesla Takedown campaign is working―and it’s becoming an incredibly powerful way to meaningfully fight back against Elon Musk’s illegal and deadly gutting of the federal government.

STMP has been amplifying the Tesla Takedown actions to our mailing list and supporters. If your organization wants to do the same, you can view our emails amplifying Tesla Takedown here. Please feel free to use this copy to share it with your supporters, if that is helpful.

There is also a Tesla Takedown Action Organizing Toolkit here.

On Saturday (tomorrow), we will also be putting out a statement joining those who are calling for the immediate release of Mahmoud Khalil. You can view our email statement in the same document I linked above. The attacks on Palestinian organizers and climate groups are not unrelated.

Unfortunately, It’s now crystal clear that this regime is committed to suppressing free speech and targeting activists and social movements. We cannot let them — down that path is where fascism lies. In the weeks ahead, it’s more important than ever that we speak out and fight back.
With love & solidarity ✊♥️

PS: Here’s the email we just sent out to our list.

Over the last four weeks, a grassroots campaign has been organizing regular protests at Tesla showrooms around the country to protest Elon Musk’s illegal and deadly takeover of the federal government.

The Tesla Takedown campaign has been incredibly effective. There were more than 100 actions last weekend; there are 100+ actions planned this weekend. Thousands of people have sold Tesla stock and sales are plummeting. In the past month, Tesla’s share price is down by 30%.

This weekend, there are 100+ Tesla Takedown actions happening in 25 US states and 6 countries. We strongly encourage you to check out the action map and join a protest near you.

With the campaign gaining steam, Elon Musk and his minion Donald Trump are pushing back hard. This week, Elon Musk made false claims about organizations and organizers behind the campaign, including some of our coalition partners.

In the process, Musk conflated the peaceful protests with a small number of isolated acts of vandalism that have happened at Tesla showrooms; meanwhile a fawning Donald Trump bought a new Tesla at the White House to show his “support” of his bestie.

As the campaign has made clear: “Tesla Takedown is a nonviolent grassroots protest movement. We oppose violence and destruction of property”. And that is exactly what we’re all about at Stop the Money Pipeline: using the power of nonviolent, peaceful protest to hold the powerful accountable.

We encourage you to find a Tesla Takedown protest near you this weekend. And if you can’t find one? Organize one!

We’re living in a terrifying moment. The President of the United States is making nice with dictators like Putin, openly talking about the ethnic cleansing of Palestine and a colonial takeover of Greenland and Panama. And he’s starting trade wars with Canada, Mexico, and Europe and disappearing leading activists, such as Mahmoud Khalil.

Musk’s destruction of USAID alone could result in hundreds of thousands more people dying every year from preventable diseases, such as malaria, Ebola, and polio. In other words, the world’s richest man is literally breaking laws and his decisions are killing hundreds of thousands of the world’s poorest people in the process.

But we can and we must fight back.

It’s time for us to be brave. It’s time to be angry. It’s a time to show up and fight for democracy, for freedom of speech, and for the right to dissent.

Join the movement. Find a Tesla Takedown action near you this weekend.

If you haven’t been out on the streets since Trump was elected, now is the time to get back out there.

In Solidarity,
– the Stop the Money Pipeline team

PS: Want to know more? Check out this piece in the Guardian from our dear friend, Valerie Costa who was personally targeted by Musk this weekend.
