Dear Jeanne,
From the Seattle Times to the New York Times, everyone is talking about how little – almost nothing – our state’s very rich pay in taxes. Together, we can change this. We worked with WA lawmakers to pass capital gains, a small tax on massive stock market profits, a few months ago. And soon that money will be flowing to child care, schools, and communities.
Now, we must keep working together to make Washington’s billionaires, like Jeff Bezos, pay their share through a wealth tax.
It is simply not right that the poorest 25% of us pay nearly 18% of their income in WA state sales and property taxes.
That means regular Washingtonians, especially Black and brown families, are paying the most for the schools, hospitals, and roads we all rely on, while our state’s billionaires pay almost nothing.
Send your letter now to your state legislators and the Governor asking them to pass a wealth tax on Washington’s billionaires. Be sure to personalize it to make it really effective.
Thank you for all you do.
