Jeanne —

In the frenzy of activity in the nation’s capitol to address Covid-19, fossil fuel interests are making their voices heard loud and clear, and the President is listening. In fact, the Trump Administration has granted the industry’s request to alter the eligibility rules for Federal Reserve’s $600 billion Main Street Lending Program.

Fortunately, now there’s a bill that would stop the fossil fuel industry from profiting off of this crisis.  Senator Merkley and Representative Barragán just introduced the ReWIND (Resources for Workforce Investments, not Drilling) Act, which would:

  • Block the fossil fuel industry from receiving federal funds meant for families, workers, and small businesses
  • Ban the government from stockpiling oil we don’t need through the Strategic Petroleum Reserve
  • Put a moratorium on new oil and gas leasing and outlaw royalty relief for companies that drill on public lands
  • Stop bank holding companies from taking over distressed oil and gas corporations

Please call Senator Murray (202-224-2621),  Senator Cantwell (202-224-3441), and your Congressional Representative, and ask them to co-sponsor the ReWIND Act. Representative Jayapal, is already a co-sponsor.

Suggested call Script:

Hi, I’m calling to ask ______ to cosponsor the ReWIND Act, a new bill to stop a public bailout of corporate polluters.

Almost every day, Trump suggests a new idea to bail out fossil fuel billionaires with public money, while vulnerable communities and frontline workers still lack essential protections.

The ReWIND Act would take key steps to stop the Trump administration and Wall St. banks from bailing out the fossil fuel industry.

I urge you to join the ReWIND Act as a cosponsor to stand with working people, not big polluters, and to push for its inclusion in the next COVID-19 stimulus package.

We hope you’re staying healthy, and thank you for staying in the fight for climate justice!

In solidarity,
Selden
