The Summer of Heat campaign has been in full swing since June – with families, grandparents, scientists, and faith leaders hitting the streets and calling out the financiers of the climate crisis like Citibank. So far, there have been 456 people arrested to demand a just transition and an end to financing fossil fuel expansion
Now we’re calling out Costco, LL Bean, Macy’s, Home Depot, Best Buy, Sears, and AT&T. Why? Because these companies have co-branded credit cards with Citi. It’s time for us to hit Citi where it hurts: Their brand reputation and their ability to do business with other major companies. If we put pressure on these companies to pressure Citi about its fossil fuel financing – we can really make a difference.
All around the world, people are feeling the effects of fossil fuel and human-driven climate change: Extreme weather like deadly heat waves, worsening fires, droughts, floods, and hurricanes. It’s time that Citi listens to the science: Citi must stop financing fossil fuel expansion.
In order to get Citi to do this, our plan is to put pressure on these major companies that do business with Citibank.
Let’s make sure the message is clear: If these companies continue to do business with Citibank, they are just as complicit in the climate crisis as Citi is. If these companies care about climate change and take sustainability seriously, they will join with us to pressure Citi to end its fossil fuel financing immediately.
