Chase uses its sponsorship of the US Open to launder its reputation and burnish its image as a “community-friendly” bank. This couldn’t be less true.
Chase is the number one global financier of fossil fuels, and responsible for $382 billion for the fossil fuel industry since 2016. Chase is directly contributing to the destruction of our planet and our communities.
That’s why activists from Rise & Resist disrupted the US Open today, greeting attendees with banners, signs, and fans to put Chase’s greenwashing on display, and calling on the US Tennis Association to cut ties with Chase.
It’s particularly jarring to see the Chase logo looking out over Queens, where just one year ago, dozens of people drowned in their basements during the climate-intensified Hurricane Ida. Chase is a major contributor to the extreme weather events that are devastating our communities.
