In just a few weeks, shareholders of the biggest banks will vote on resolutions that push the banks to stop funding fossil fuel expansion. BlackRock, Vanguard, and State Street have billions invested in the banks – and thus, a huge amount of power over these shareholder resolutions.

Major investors can impel big banks like Chase and Bank of America to stop funding fossil fuel expansion.

But they need to hear from us. Can you send a quick email to these big investors and ask them to vote yes on resolutions to stop fossil fuel expansion?

A landmark report from the world’s top energy experts found that in order to limit global warming to 1.5°C, we have to stop building new fossil fuel infrastructure immediately. But big banks like Chase, Bank of America, and Citibank continue to support companies expanding their fossil fuel operations, despite having their own net-zero commitments.

These shareholder resolutions are a way to hold them accountable to taking real action to limit climate chaos.

BlackRock, Vanguard, and State Street have enormous power to get the big banks to stop funding climate destruction. Can you send a quick note right now and demand they hold the banks accountable?

Building new fossil fuel infrastructure doesn’t just lock in climate catastrophe. New oil fields and LNG infrastructure are overwhelmingly built in areas that are already marginalized, particularly Black and Indigenous communities.

Banks used to have a formalized process of denying resources to Black communities through redlining. Now, owing to environmental racism those same banks are funding the expansion of toxic fossil fuel infrastructure in the same places, turning them into sacrifice zones.

The big banks will continue to fund the expansion of fossil fuels unless we can force them to stop.
