Sixty years after the original Freedom Rides, Black Americans are still facing significant barriers at the polls.
Legislation in Georgia, Florida, and dozens of other states threatens to further disenfranchise our communities and rob us of our power. Black Voters Matter, in partnership with The Frontline and other national political and advocacy organizations, are launching the Freedom Ride for Voting Rights to build on the legacy of the original Freedom Rides and continue to fight those same systems of racism, segregation, and voter suppression that are impacting our communities today. Join us and be a Freedom Rider this Juneteenth.
Join “The Blackest Bus in America” as they ride from Mississippi to Washington DC with stops in cities along the way empowering communities to combat voting restrictions. Join them if they’re stopping at a city near you, but don’t stop there: anyone across the country can be a freedom rider by hosting your own local event. The more visibility and support this effort gets, the more voters and elected officials can become aware of our power – again – and the power we all have to protect our voting rights.
We will keep the pressure on and make sure our voices are heard.
