Dear Jeanne,
Welcome to spring!
We have one urgent action related to the Senate’s Operating Budget, which is being voted on Monday afternoon, but the rest of today’s bills are related to Wednesday’s deadline for bills to pass the policy committees in their second chamber.
By now, those of you who are new to the process must realize how many steps each bill has to take: two committee hearings and votes in executive sessions, a floor vote in the chamber of origin; then a couple of rounds of committee hearings and votes in the second chamber and another floor vote. And finally, there is reconciliation if the House and Senate pass different versions, then the Governor signs, with a right of veto. That is why there are so many familiar bills by this stage in the session.
