This past Sunday, over 75,000 people took to the streets of New York City for the March to End Fossil Fuels. We are blown away by the energy and power of this mobilization! This was a historic mobilization calling on President Joe Biden to stop approving fossil fuel projects, phase down oil and gas drilling, declare a climate emergency, and provide a just and equitable transition off fossil fuels.
Watch and share this wrap-up video far and wide to keep the momentum going:
This was the largest demonstration pressuring Biden since he took office and the largest climate mobilization since the start of the pandemic. It was one of 700 other #EndFossilFuels actions in 65 countries with 600,000 people joining over this weekend, with more on the way.
Sunday’s march was all about people power. We were led by New York grassroots organizations; Black, Indigenous, other communities of color, and frontline communities living next to oil and gas facilities and infrastructure across the world; youth, elders, workers, people of faith, and people of all backgrounds impacted by fossil fuels and climate disaster across the United States. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez even joined our rally and called on Biden to #EndFossilFuels!
We will not stop organizing until President Biden uses his powers to end fossil fuels, and here’s what is next:
Plug in on a month of solidarity to #StopMVP, the Mountain Valley Pipeline – a massive fracked gas pipeline that is actively being built, cutting through the heart of Appalachia, harming frontline communities and fueling climate catastrophe: https://forms.gle/7vNCnsMkcRU9Pkfv9
If you’re near NYC, stay plugged in with local organizations like New York Communities for Change, Fridays for Future NYC, Frack Outta BK, and many more – see the full list of endorsing organizations to plug in wherever you are.
Thank you to all who came out, organized a hub, built art, and supported the march in countless ways. Our movement to #EndFossilFuels is stronger than ever.
Onwards,
-March to End Fossil Fuels organizers
