Hello all!
This Monday, August 6, the Greater Maple Valley Unincorporated Area Council will hold its monthly meeting from 7:00 to 9:30 PM at the Maple Valley Fire Station (SE corner of SE 231st St & SR-169). The main topic of this meeting will be the re-opening of the John Henry No. 1 Coal Mine in King County.
There will be presentations from Puget Soundkeeper Alliance, Department of Ecology, King County Parks Department and David Morris and Barry Kombol of Pacific Coast Coal Company (the company who owns the mine). After the presentations there will be time for Q&A.
This is a great opportunity to learn more about the proposal to re-open the mine and show opposition to coal mining in our state, as well as push for full reclamation of the land, as required by law and now long overdue. Please attend if you are able and spread the word to your lists and groups. We are encouraging folks who come to wear red in opposition to the mine.
Hope to see you there,
Morgan and Alyssa
