Hi friends –
I’m excited to announce that we’re running a new workshop for partners: Stop the Money Pipeline How to Write an OpEd Workshop.
What: Two 2-hour workshops where we will explore everything that you need to know to write a successful Op-Ed for your campaign. In session one, we will go over the strategic value of placing an Op-Ed for your campaign, as well as the structure and key tips for writing. In session two, we will review how to pitch an Op-Ed and other options for getting your writing out into the world. Participants will be encouraged to write a draft Op-Ed between sessions one and two.
When:
-
Tuesday, July 12th, 4-6PT/ 7-9ET, Session 1: Writing an OpEd – The Basics and What You Need to Know
-
Tuesday, August 2nd, 4-6PT/ 7-9ET, Session 2: Pitching & Getting our Voices Heard
Who: These workshops are designed for organizers in the climate movement who also have a passion for the written word. Whether you are a staff member with an NGO or are a volunteer with a grassroots organization, you are welcome to apply to join the workshops. Having previously published work is not a requirement, however, participants should have an interest in the written word and be committed to learning the structure, tips and tricks of writing an effective OpEd. We especially encourage people who identify as Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Color to join this workshop series. Members of the LGBTQ+ community, and members of additional historically disenfranchised groups are also especially welcome. To encourage peer-to-peer learning and community building, workshops will be capped to a maximum of sixteen participants.
Commitment: Participants will be expected to attend two 2-hour workshops, complete a rough draft of an OpEd between Session 1 and Session 2, and review and give feedback on at least one draft op-ed from a fellow workshop participant
I will be facilitating these workshops and am grateful to be supported by Jason Schwartz in creating the content. FWIW, I’ll be pulling on my experience having had opinion writing published in Common Dreams, The Seattle Times, Salon, The Guardian, Truth-Out, Crosscut, Real Change, the Stranger, and more, as well as having ghost-written opinion writing for climate scientists and elected officials.
Interested? Apply to join the Stop the Money Pipeline How to Write an OpEd Workshop Series today. Please apply by no later than Thursday, June 16th. If you have any questions about the workshops, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Sincerely – Alec
