It’s been a heck of a week here in New York. Today, 56 elders, some of them with walking canes and all of them in rocking chairs, were arrested for blocking the doors to the global headquarters of the world’s largest funder of fossil fuel expansion: Citibank.
With over 100 community organizers and frontline leaders from the Gulf South traveling to New York, the march will be led by dozens of true environmental justice leaders, including Roishetta Ozane and John Beard, Goldman Environmental Prize-winner Sharon Lavigne, and Juan Mancias, the Tribal Chair of the Carrizo-Comecrudo Tribal Nation of Texas.
The march will be a family-friendly, celebratory and joyous second-line march led by a brass band. We will start at the head of Wall Street, and will end at the global headquarters of Citibank.
When we arrive at Citi’s HQ more than one hundred people will engage in nonviolent civil disobedience. The civil disobedience part of the march will be entirely optional and it is possible to participate in the march but not the civil disobedience.
