Excited to share this upcoming series of action trainings this fall, Deep Roots: Trainings for Forest & Climate Action, organized by members of the PNWFCA. The series will include webinars, a kayak/flotilla action against the Flat Country timber sale, and a direct action training camp September 16-18 outside Eugene, OR. Deep Roots seeks to learn & draw from the lessons & strengths of both the climate justice and forest defense movements to help build a vibrant direct action movement to protect our communities, forests and climate.

We hope to have as many folks join us for the camp & other events as possible, including Alliance members! You can sign-up to participate in the Sep 16-18 training camp here and there’s more info about the camp & training series below. There will be an ‘Introduction to Direct Action’ webinar September 8th, 6-8pm PST that will include more info about the camp, which you can register for here.

Please help us amplify this! This toolkit includes sample outreach language, eblasts, social media graphics, and a flyer.  We also know that a lot of Alliance member groups don’t engage in direct action tactics, and understand some may not be able to promote this–no worries, our movement is stronger for its diversity of tactics & strategies and we need all of us approaching this work from different angles to be successful.

Deep Roots: Trainings for Forest & Climate Action Join us September 16th -18th to learn & practice nonviolent direct action skills, connect with others in the forest & climate defense communities, and sleep under the stars in an old growth forest! The Deep Roots Training Camp will take place in the proposed Flat Country timber sale, an old growth forest set to be logged in the Willamette National Forest, near the town of McKenzie Bridge, OR. These crucial forests are located in the headwaters of the iconic McKenzie River, drinking water source for many. Together, we’ll learn & draw from the lessons & strengths of both the climate justice and forest defense movements, with the goal of building a vibrant direct action movement to protect our communities, forests, and climate. Over the weekend, we’ll build relationships, learn new skills, and get connected with ongoing campaigns to protect communities, climate, and forests throughout the PNW. Trainings & workshops include organizing & participating in direct action, creating vibrant protest art, decolonization & forest defense, Know Your Rights, organizing with affinity groups, and more! Following the camp, there will be opportunities to plug into upcoming actions and campaigns, including a kayak flotilla on the McKenzie River in opposition to the Flat Country timber sale.
