Pride, Juneteenth, wildfires, extreme heat––June was a month that demanded both celebration and conviction, calling on us to exercise the full breadth of our working principles.
In this month’s highlights, you’ll see a new campaign, new working groups, and new blog posts, which together show how the threads of our work towards a more just and safer future are strengthened when woven together. Speaking of new, you may also notice that this newsletter looks a bit different! We’re experimenting with the style and cadence of our emails. We’re so thankful to have you onboard through the continued evolution of Third Act.
Happy Summer,

Third Actors recount memorable moments at the polls
Yesterday’s anniversary of the Civil Rights Act, coupled with tomorrow’s arrival of the Fourth of July spotlights the right to vote as a cornerstone of democracy.
“I was in an Army hospital in 1968 after returning from Vietnam and voted for Hubert Humphrey for President. I was only 19, but as a resident of Alaska I could legally vote. I remember that an Army nurse helped me vote from my hospital bed, and I was so proud to have been able to cast my ballot. This is one of the many reasons we Democrats and Independents have to fight so hard to protect this precious right for all voters in our country.”

California Pension Fund Divestment
California Working Groups are organizing around pension divestment, testifying in bill hearings, contacting state legislators, and hosting ‘Letter to the Editor’ writing parties on Zoom. The CA SB252 bill has been extended to the next legislative cycle, allowing more time to build public support. In partnership with Great Old Broads for Wilderness, Third Act SF Bay Area hosted a webinar on the Bureau of Land Management rule to conserve public lands from more oil and gas extraction. Last month we also welcomed two new Working Groups: Arizona and Massachusetts!
Fight Dirty Energy Investments on Public Lands!
Submit your public comment on the Public Lands Rule by July 5. This is an historic opportunity to speak up in favor of protecting millions of acres of public lands from oil and gas leasing.
