Today the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) gave a huge gift to the fossil fuel industry by approving the GTN Xpress fracked gas expansion project.
TC Energy’s GTN Xpress project would bring more fracked gas into Idaho, Washington, Oregon, and California by increasing compression in the aging GTN pipeline. Pushing more gas through an old pipeline is a bad plan, and the project’s pollution will equal that of several fossil fuel power plants—3.47 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions each year.
When it comes to TC’s Energy’s plan to push more fracked gas into our region, we won’t take yes for an answer. Columbia Riverkeeper and our partners will petition for a rehearing to challenge FERC’s approval of GTN Xpress. The states of Washington, Oregon, and California should do the same.
Join us in supporting public interest groups and states in challenging FERC’s reckless decision.
People from all corners of the Northwest have voiced opposition to GTN Xpress, including: Senator Merkley; Senator Wyden; Senator Cantwell; Senator Padilla; Congressman Blumenauer; Congresswoman Salinas; Washington Governor Jay Inslee; Oregon Governor Tina Kotek; the Attorneys General of Washington, Oregon, and California; the Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission; four state representatives from Oregon and Washington; dozens of community organizations, and thousands of Northwest residents.
FERC’s decision to ignore our voices shouldn’t be the final word. We will continue to fight to hold FERC accountable. You can make a difference by supporting Columbia Riverkeeper now. Together we will continue to fight to hold FERC accountable.
