Every year, insurance giant AIG pours hundreds of millions into the oil and gas industry – harming climate impacted communities and accelerating the climate crisis. We need action and accountability.
AIG is one of the world’s largest fossil fuel insurers. AIG is also the lead sponsor of the British Women’s Open golf tournament. Leading up to the event, AIG has been touting its allyship to women to deflect from its support of fossil fuels – but activists didn’t let that happen.
Last month, activists exposed AIG’s climate destruction in front of the world at its title golf tournament. In a message boosted by UK based activist, Tori Tsui, called out AIG’s silence on ruling out insurance for the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP).
Unlike 22 other insurers, AIG has yet to rule out support for EACOP. If completed, EACOP would generate over 34 million tons of pollution annually. Already, large-scale displacement of communities has begun with the impact disproportionately harming women and girls.
