As part of the deal to pass the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), leaders in the U.S. Senate promised Joe Manchin that they would pass a separate bill in September. This deal is what Manchin and the fossil fuel industry have been dreaming about for years: fast tracking approvals for fossil fuel projects like the Mountain Valley Pipeline, and undercutting basic climate protections.

The “pipeline deal” is separate from the Inflation Reduction Act, so we still have a chance to stop it. Hundreds of organizations across the country are fighting to stop this assault by the fossil fuel industry, but we’ll only win if they are joined by thousands of people.

Join us for a rally this Thursday outside the Seattle federal building to demand that our U.S. Senators stop this dirty deal. We can’t allow communities to be sacrificed to more fracking, pipelines, and climate disasters!

When: Thursday, August 18th, at 4:30pm
Where: Jackson Federal Building, 915 2nd Ave (2nd and Marion)

If passed, this “pipeline deal” would make it much harder for us to stop new fossil fuel projects. Activists in Oregon, New York, New Jersey, and other states have blocked pipelines under the Clean Water Act. But this bill would gut our ability to use the Clean Water Act to fight new oil and gas pipelines.

The IRA’s climate benefits were already severely watered down by Senator Manchin’s enormous handouts to the fossil fuel industry. We can’t afford even more giveaways to the fossil fuel industry.

Join us on Thursday to make it clear: our Senators must oppose the “fossil fuel pipeline” deal!
