This summer, we’re organizing to win upgrades to Seattle’s community centers so that they can be climate resilience hubs, providing life-saving clean air and cooling for all Seattle residents—and transitioning them off fossil fuels and creating good union jobs along the way.
Our Solar Schools campaign this fall ($18M for Green New Deal projects at Seattle Public Schools!) showed us that when we build a powerful climate-labor coalition and grassroots support, we can win big—we’re gearing up to do it again, and we need YOU.

Heat Wave Anniversary
Last summer’s deadly heat wave made it clear: we can’t wait another decade to upgrade Seattle’s community centers to be climate resilience hubs. Heat waves, wildfire smoke, and extreme winter weather are already here: we need to rapidly transition off fossil fuels to avoid even more serious climate impacts. So one year after record-breaking temperatures hit Seattle, we’re headed to City Hall to demand our leaders invest in climate resilience, clean energy, good union jobs and Seattle’s Green New Deal!

STOP THE MONEY PIPELINE
Are you a customer of Chase, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, or Citibank? Do you know anyone who is?
Those banks are the four largest financiers of fossil fuels and deforestation in the world. That’s why Customers for Climate Justice is organizing thousands of their customers to collectively demand that these four banks immediately stop funding climate chaos. So far, over 38,000 customers have signed on to open letters to the CEOs of their banks.
This month, the STMP team at 350 Seattle is launching a Seattle Customers for Climate Justice campaign! We’re organizing Seattle-area customers of these banks to hold meetings with local branch managers and regional-area managers. This is a key tactic: one of the biggest places we have leverage right now is making sure as many staff as possible learn about their employer’s role in the climate crisis.

In a few weeks, we’ll offer an online training to the 350 Seattle community and friends on meeting with your branch manager. We’d love for you to join us. Even if you’re not a customer of these banks, you can support by spreading the word to your friends and family—we want as many customers as possible to hear about this opportunity to take action.
GAS PIPELINE EXPANSION
When we fight we win—this Sightline article chronicles a decade of successes against fossil fuel projects in Cascadia, for example—so it’s worth noting that TC Energy wants to upgrade its Gas Transmission Northwest pipeline to carry an additional 1.2 million households’ worth of fracked fossil gas per day to Washington, Oregon, and California—three states whose climate goals clearly indicate that they don’t need any more climate-destroying gas, dammit.
This project will be getting more attention in the coming months—for now, send a message calling on Governors Inslee and Brown to oppose the expansion.

FEDERAL POLICY TEAM
The Federal Policy Team has a virtual meeting with Patty Murray’s staff coming up soon. We’ll focus on a final push for the Build Back Better clean energy agenda, and on the Climate Emergency Act of 2021. If you’d like to attend, we’d love to have you! Contact Selden.

In a separate but related matter, Leonard Peltier was convicted 47 years ago for the deaths of two FBI agents. He maintains his innocence and his supporters are asking for his freedom through the Rize Up for Peltier Tour organized by the International Leonard Peltier Defense Committee. The Anti-War Workgroup is growing! We’re joining with the local and international peace movement and building a bridge between preventing war and preventing climate collapse, a bridge to a lasting peace and a thriving ecology.

A ceasefire was agreed to in Yemen—we cannot give up on a ceasefire in Ukraine. Join the Secretary General of the U.N., government leaders of India, South Africa, Germany, Italy, Pope Francis, many Ukrainians and Russians, and World Beyond War and add your name here calling for a ceasefire in Ukraine and negotiations to end the war.
June 25 is the next International Peace Day, with the purpose of putting pressure on the G7 meeting in Munich, June 26-28. Join the 24-hour Peace Wave rally beginning in Ireland/Scotland/UK at 6am Pacific Time on June 25. Also, visit PeaceInUkraine.org to find or create local actions—and sign a letter to President Biden.

It’s Solstice time again! Join us in the Fremont Summer Solstice Parade with our fun, participatory Green New Deal solutions ensemble!!
Carry art or encourage audience participation in painting their stamp of approval on the huge canvases under our GND murals. This is a messy and fun way to engage people’s hearts and minds, through their bodies in action for a healthy future.
