Dear Jeanne,

I hope this note finds you and your loved ones doing well. I find myself writing to you against a backdrop of a lot of hard news, and everyone here at 350.org wishes you all well and we are grateful that you are part of our community.

We are happy to share some encouraging updates: right now we are in the middle of our Power Up global month of action, where we are bringing people together fighting to shift money and political influence away from fossil fuel companies and towards a clean and equitable future for all. In the opening weekend alone there were 200+ beautiful Power Up actions all over the globe. These events showcased how our many partners around the world are supporting the call for clean energy and climate solutions. They were beautiful, hopeful, and we hope you have time to take a look at some of the images.

Right now we are looking ahead to this year’s United Nations climate summit (COP 28) in Dubai. We know we have so much to fight for, and we’re under no illusion that this conference, hosted in an oil producing country, can deliver all we need it to. But our team will be there as we are every year, fighting hard to make sure we get the best we can out of it. Our hopes are high for some kind of win on renewable energy — and you may hear from us on that!

Power Up and the COP are two reminders of how active our climate movement is all over the globe. We know we have so much work to do, and we can do this with your help.

Thanks for all you do,

May

With over 10,000 people joining 200 events and counting, there are too many Power Up events to list. That is why we made this Power Up reflection video, showing dozens of the different actions that took place so far, across every inhabited continent on Earth. Check it out to learn more about what Power Up means to our different teams, and see the different ways that people came together to make our message clear: we need to Power Up climate solutions now.

Power Up Spotlight: 350 Asia

We want to spotlight our team in Asia as an example of how our Power Up actions can spread across an entire continent, mobilizing thousands of people along the way. Our teams and partners in Indonesia, Bangladesh, and Taiwan held marches, each with hundreds of participants, urging politicians, leaders, and the public to prioritize environmental issues. Activists in Nepal, Thailand, the Philippines, and Mongolia used art, banners, and even boats to amplify the need for urgent climate action.

Our team in Japan was especially creative, bringing together prominent artists, influencers, and 800+ attendees to raise their voices and sing for a future of peace and climate justice. They used this concert to call for the expansion of renewable energy in Japan, and stronger measures to combat the climate crisis.

Looking Ahead to COP 28:

Here at 350.org, we are always looking ahead — and right now we have our eyes on the upcoming UN climate summit (COP 28), where President Biden and other world leaders will gather in Dubai to discuss how to combat the climate crisis. The UN Climate Talks are the perfect opportunity for global leaders to commit to a 100% renewable energy target. In order for this to happen — we are planning for our work at COP 28 while also pressuring top leaders around the world to push for ambitious climate solutions through our Power Up month of action.
