This week, bank customers are showing up to their local bank branch to deliver a pledge: unless my bank stops financing fossil fuels, I pledge to move my money on March 21st. But it’s not too late for you to show up, these pledge deliveries are just the beginning.
Our movement has been working diligently and tirelessly for years to demand that the largest banks backing fossil fuels and deforestation – Citibank, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and Chase – stop financing climate chaos. But these banks have still not owned up to their responsibility in perpetuating the climate crisis and environmental racism.
This is going to be a fun and powerful day with art, song, and community amplifying our collective call to the banks: Quit financing fossil fuels or we will quit your banks! We are going to need as many folks participating in this day as possible in order to make a significant splash. You don’t need to be a customer of these banks or have moved your money yet. Our goal is to collectively make some noise, raise the visibility of the dirty banks’ role in climate and community destruction, and grow our movement for climate justice and solutions. We are hoping for a widespread geographic distribution of groups, both small and large, getting together to tell these banks: stop financing climate chaos.
If you decide to sign up to host an event, Third Act will send you the Event and Arts Toolkit that will walk you through how to incorporate creative tactics to engage event participants and send a clear message to the banks to stop funding the climate crisis. You’ll also be connected with a Third Act coach to help with whatever support you need. AND Third Act is hosting a Visual Arts & Song Training on February 25th and a Nonviolent Direct Action training March 2nd. If this is your first time hearing about Third Act, they are also hosting Welcome Calls every other week where you can learn about Third Act’s campaigns, Working Groups, and how you can plug into their growing network.
