Election season is upon us, which means 350 Action and our sister organization, 350.org, are working to Get Out the Vote, fight voter suppression, and shape the debate around a Just Recovery. We wanted to share a few updates on what each organization is up to, and some opportunities to collaborate! 350 Action – Just Recovery Pledge (501c4)350 Action launched the Just Recovery Pledge as a tactic to pressure 2020 candidates running at all levels of government to ensure that healing from the colliding impacts of Covid-19, climate change, voter disenfranchisement, police brutality and a struggling economy happens equitably. We know that Black, Indigenous, immigrant and working class communities continue to be the hardest hit by these compounding crises. If we can pressure hundreds of candidates to sign the Just Recovery Pledge through calls, emails and social media posts, then we can build momentum for recovery bills that actually address the challenges we face – instead of using COVID-19 as an excuse to pour more money into corporate pockets. Partners who have joined this effort include Indivisible, Oil Change International, and United Electrical Workers Union. Please share the pledge with any candidates who are running in your districts, especially any candidates for whom you are campaigning! This Toolkit for Activists has everything you’ll need to get started. If you’d like to learn more or get involved, please reach out to Beta@350action.org. 350.org – Climate Vote Project (501c3 GOTV)350.org has launched the Climate Vote Project! We’re working together to turn out as many voters this election cycle as possible. The Climate Vote Project Superpage has resources available to register to vote, check your registration status, sign up to be a poll monitor and volunteer for Get Out the Vote phone banks. The Climate Vote Project phone banks are working in partnership with the Environmental Voter Project to place hundreds of thousands of calls to voters likely to care about the environment but who don’t always make it to the polls. We’re calling states including CO, GA, FL, NH, and NC every Wednesday and Sunday. Sign up for a phone bank here, or sign up here to get invites each week. More resources:
350 Action – Local groups supporting each other to Get Out the Vote (501c4)Various local 350 groups are contributing to this Get out the Vote Event Calendar which lists all of the GOTV events around the country. It is updated regularly with new events. If your local group is a 501(c)4 or an all volunteer group that doesn’t have a legal status, you can use this event calendar to help recruit volunteers from your supporter base to GOTV events! You can even embed the calendar on your own website by using this code in your website. If you are a 501(c)3, you should not use this calendar. 350 Action – Boosting your local electoral work (501c4)For groups that have a 501c4 arm, feel free to reach out to Jenny@350action.org with the following requests:
350.org – We’re looking for spokespeople (501c3 GOTV)350.org is looking for individuals willing to share their stories with the media who have been impacted by voter suppression or reduced access to voting, and who have experienced climate impacts like hurricanes, wildfires, or flooding. We know that climate change is a crisis that compounds existing inequities like voting access. We want to ensure that the public is aware of these issues and that election officials need to take action. If anyone in your local group is interested in sharing a story with the media, please have them complete this form. Coming soon from 350 Action: Join our Democracy Defense Team (501c4)Like many of you, we’re thinking about how we fight to protect our democracy no matter what happens in November. We’ll be following up this month with an invitation to join a volunteer team that will help get out the vote for climate champions, and prepare for what happens if Trump tries to steal the election. If you have questions, please let us know! Jenny Zimmer, 350 Action Campaign Manager |
