Welcome to the very first day of the 2021 legislative session! For those who are returning to CAT, welcome back, and for those who are new, welcome!
We know there is a lot going on and we are thankful you’re here to support climate legislation in Washington. It’s going to take us all to push for climate policy at the state level, and this is a long session (105 days) so pace yourself!
As you know, we only have a narrow window of time to address the climate crisis. Bill McKibben puts it at only nine short years, so we’re grateful to be doing this climate advocacy with you.
Things in Olympia will look different this year and 350 WA CAT is responding. The virtual session provides more opportunities for public participation and we plan to take full advantage. We’re also using more robust tools and we have a whole bunch of new volunteers behind the scenes helping to track bills and make all this work happen.
Because of all this, our weekly emails will look slightly different than in the past — but hopefully the experience of taking action on climate is still simple and something you feel good about. Our advocacy will include signing on to support bills, providing written testimony, making phone calls and sending emails. But of course, not all at once!
Today’s CAT Action will include signing on to support two important bills: Zero Emissions Cargo Handling Equipment for Ports and Concerning Community Solar.
